Biography:
Dwight Gee has more than two decades experience in the
management, leadership and training of nonprofit organizations. He is currently
executive vice president of ArtsFund, a
fund-raising, grant-making and capacity-building nonprofit based in Seattle, an
organization he joined in 1989. At ArtsFund he created more than a decade ago a
highly regarded Board Leadership Training program which twice a year provides
training in the fundamentals of board responsibilities to classes of 30
aspiring or current members of nonprofit arts boards. Dwight teaches the
session on best governance practices. He has put those practices to use in
Seattle as two-term board chair of the organization FareStart, which trains
homeless people to work in the food service industry. He has also used all elements
of his expertise abroad when, in 2002, as a consultant to the George Soros
Foundation, he helped establish the Arts Council of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar,
Mongolia. The following year, he created a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit Arts Council
of Mongolia-US of which he is board president and volunteer executive director.
As a volunteer, Dwight travels to Mongolia about once a year to provide
leadership training in a variety of nonprofit topics to classes of senior or
emerging arts leaders, to facilitate retreats of the ACM board and consult with
the ACM staff. In Seattle in 2008, he worked with the University of Washington
Evan’s School of Public Affairs, Social Venture Partners and United Way of King
County to create an advanced board leadership program for highly experienced
board members. Dwight is also a member of the visiting committee of Seattle
University’s masters in Nonprofit Leadership Program. At ArtsFund, he also
works extensively in public-sector advocacy, research, communications and
strategic planning.
